Using a sound bar in home theaters has become an increasingly popular choice because it allows consumers to get nice sound quality without messing with surround sound wires or buying wireless sound systems. As a result, companies like Yamaha have been pumping out sound bars for the masses. Yamaha’s latest, the YSP-5100, looks to be another great option.

Yamaha prefers to call their devices “Digital Sound Projectors.” It doesn’t matter what you call it, it’s a compact sound system that sits below your HDTV just like every other sound bar out there. The YSP-5100 supports HD decoding (including Dolby True HD and DTS-HD), ample ports for cords (including HDMI) and technology to imitate surround sound without actually having 5.1 speakers. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s better than TV speakers.

All those features are pretty standard in sound bars, but Yamaha claims the YSP-5100 is so much better than its predecessors because of improved sound quality. There’s no way to gauge those claims just yet as the YSP-5100 won’t ship until late this month. Yamaha has yet to state a price for it either.
