Kef FiveTwo Model 11

The Kef FiveTwo Model 11 speakers are one of two models the Kef produces in the FiveTwo line. The model 11 is the higher end of the models (the other being the model 7). The FiveTwo series is a different spin on the traditional sound bar that is common with flat panel TVs. Kef’s approach takes two tower speakers, each 40 inches tall, and outfits them with 11 different drivers. The idea is to get surround sound without running all the wires to speakers all over your room.

Standout Features

• 87 dB Sensitivity
• 109 dB maximum output
• 11 driver speaker cabinets

Features

Kef’s FiveTwo series Model 11 speakers each sit about 40 inches tall. These speakers aren’t your grandmother’s virtual surround sound speakers. Rather than relying on one sound bar above or below the screen, Kef took two towers and fit 11 drivers into each one. The result is a wider sound stage than you could get with the standard surround bar setup.

The Model 11 comes with proprietary speaker cables which are 16 feet long. This might be a problem for someone who wants to space them out even further since they don’t make any extension cables. For most applications, the 16 feet for speaker should be more than adequate though.

The FiveTwo Model 11 speakers from Kef respond to frequencies between 90 and 30,0000 Hz. The Human ear can typically hear between 20 and 20,000 Hz. Speaker sensitivity is rated at 87 dB and each tower is magnetically shielded so placing it next to your old CRT TV won’t be an issue.

Summary of Reviews

The experts liked the style and beauty of the FiveTwo Model 11 speakers. The sound quality was crisp and “razor sharp.” Each of the speakers house 11 drivers which produce outstanding cinema quality sound. The speakers are designed to work with any receiver. There is a downside however: the proprietary speaker cables are only 16 feet in length and are, proprietary. That means you are stuck using the cables that come with the speakers. The bass response was also a little lower than expected, so a subwoofer is recommended.

Users also liked the unique and stylish look of the Kef FiveTwo Model 11 speakers. The system did a decent job of recreating surround sound from only two speakers. Most users felt this system did a better job than the standard surround bar type speakers. Despite their higher cost, most users would recommend this setup.

Summary

Kef has created an outstanding product with detailed, rich sound that should satisfy any home theater enthusiast. The Model 11 speakers are the perfect addition for anyone who has just bought a flat panel TV but doesn’t want to run speaker wires all over their room.

While their surround effects fall a bit short of the best we've heard, KEF's beautifully crafted FiveTwo Series Model 11 speakers produce five channels of sound with exceptional audiophile-grade clarity.
